Principal Engineer – Data Engineering, AI & Distributed Systems

Wells Fargo seeks a Principal Engineer to lead enterprise data platforms, distributed systems, AI solutions, and cloud-native architectures, shaping strategy, driving modernization, and influencing senior leadership across the organization.

• Design and evolve scalable data architectures (batch, streaming, lakehouse, data mesh)
• Lead strategy and resolution of complex enterprise challenges across data, AI, and application platforms
• Define and enforce standards for data quality, lineage, metadata management, observability, governance, and security
• Drive modernization from legacy data platforms to scalable cloud‑native architectures
• Architect and govern enterprise software architecture using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, event‑driven patterns, and distributed systems
• Define standards for secure coding, API design, CI/CD, test automation, and documentation
• Lead enterprise adoption of AI and GenAI technologies, including RAG, agentic AI, and multi‑agent orchestration
• Architect and deliver enterprise‑scale GenAI solutions with retrieval‑augmented generation, LLMs, and vector databases
• Lead cloud strategy and architecture across Azure and GCP, designing scalable platform solutions with Docker, Kubernetes, and IaC
• Align engineering roadmaps with business strategy, evaluate emerging technologies, and influence senior leadership on technology investments
• Partner cross‑functionally with Product, Architecture, Data Science, Infrastructure, Security, and Platform Engineering teams

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with significant leadership responsibilities
• 7+ years designing and delivering large‑scale data engineering solutions
• 7+ years leading cloud‑native architecture initiatives
• 3+ years of hands‑on Generative AI implementation (LLM training, fine‑tuning, deployment)
• Experience building mission‑critical platforms for finance, treasury, risk, or regulatory functions
• Experience implementing enterprise‑wide AI governance and responsible AI frameworks
• Proven track record influencing CIO, CTO, and senior executive stakeholders
• Deep expertise in Data Engineering, Java/Spring Boot Microservices, and Generative AI
