Software Engineer (Python & Data) – Markets Business Controls Technology

Citi's Markets Technology group seeks a Software Engineer to build high‑throughput Python backend services and data pipelines that process large volumes of financial market data. The role involves designing scalable solutions, translating regulatory mandates into control algorithms, and collaborating with trading, risk and compliance stakeholders to strengthen operational resilience across global markets.

• Design and implement high‑throughput Python backend services and SQL pipelines for market data ingestion and processing
• Translate regulatory mandates and surveillance policies into deterministic control algorithms
• Collaborate with trading desks, risk managers and compliance stakeholders on trade lifecycle modeling and risk analytics
• Perform application profiling, database tuning and SQL query optimization to improve throughput and reduce latency
• Contribute to Generative AI‑assisted solutions and automation patterns
• Participate in architectural discussions, system design reviews and CI/CD practices using GitHub and Jira
• Conduct peer code reviews, uphold testing standards and support knowledge sharing within the team

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL with relational database design and query optimization
• Experience building scalable backend applications and data pipelines
• Knowledge of investment banking and capital markets trade lifecycles
• Experience with Agile frameworks, Jira and GitHub
• Exposure to containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift) and distributed computing (Spark, PySpark, Kafka, Solace, MQ)
• Familiarity with Generative AI APIs, prompt engineering or LLM‑driven tooling
